MindsEye: A Rocky Launch for a Highly Anticipated Game
Gaming fans were buzzing with excitement as MindsEye was set to fill the void left by the delayed launch of GTA 6. However, the highly anticipated game, directed by former Grand Theft Auto producer Leslie Benzies, has stumbled out of the gate. Currently, MindsEye holds a ‘Mostly Negative’ rating on Steam and a dismal 2.9 user score on Metacritic, marking a rocky beginning for both the game and its developer.
The most common complaints from players center around subpar performance, poorly designed enemy AI, and a plethora of bugs and gameplay glitches. Many comparisons are being drawn to Cyberpunk 2077, which suffered a catastrophic launch have led to them being removed from the PlayStation Store back in 2020.
Developer’s Response and Upcoming Fixes
Echoing the revival story of Cyberpunk 2077, MindsEye’s studio, Build a Rocket Boy, is already committed to addressing these issues head-on. In a recent statement posted on X, the team apologized to their loyal fanbase and promised a series of updates in the weeks to come. They identified that most crashes were due to a memory leak, affecting one in ten players.
The first hotfix is expected to arrive between June 13 and June 15 on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. This patch will primarily target CPU and GPU performance improvements, and it will also introduce options to modify the Depth of Field settings and ease the difficulty level of the CPR mini-game.
Early patch notes reveal a comprehensive plan for improvements:
Hotfix 1 (June 13-15) early patch notes:
- Initial CPU and GPU performance improvements, along with memory optimizations
- Reduced difficulty for the CPR mini-game
- A new setting to disable or adjust Depth of Field
- Fix for missing controls in the MineHunter and Run Dungeon mini-games
- Pop-up warnings for PCs with Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling disabled and for CPUs prone to crashes
Hotfix 2 (week of June 16) early patch notes:

The developers are working tirelessly to turn this ship around, and it seems that dedicated players may soon see significant enhancements coming their way. Whether MindsEye will rise from its initial falter remains to be seen, but early indications show that Build a Rocket Boy is not backing down.
