New Marvel comic gives Thor the most important job in the universe

The beginning of a new decade brought a fresh start for Thor when the writer Jason Aaron completed his legendary run as the architect of the story of God of Thunder. This week’s Thor # 1 has launched a new story by writer Donny Cates and artist Nic Klein.

Cates is a writer who is deeply immersed in cosmic madness at Marvel and has worked on Absolute Carnage, Silver Surfer: Black and Cosmic Ghost Rider: Baby Thanos Must Die. It’s no surprise that his Thor immediately gets caught up in a magical nonsense of space, but Thor # 1 did a great job anyway.

Before he could even get used to being Asgard’s all-father, Galactus appeared to give him another job. The God of Thunder is the newest herald of Galactus with all the abilities of the Asgard ruler and the power Cosmic.

What else happens on the pages of our favorite comics? We will tell you. Welcome to Polygon’s weekly list of books that our comic book editor has enjoyed over the past week. It is partly about the sides of the society of superhero life, partly about reading recommendations, partly about “look at this cool art”. There may be some spoilers. There may not be enough context. Let’s get started!

Thor # 1

Picture: Donny Cates, Nic Klein / Marvel Comics

Galactus interrupted Thor’s coronation speech by plunging straight into the capital Asgard and warning of a threat called Great Black Winter. The globetrotter needs help to save the entire universe. Now Thor is on his way to find five rare and unique planets that he can eat and that give him the power to destroy a “star plague”.

Detective Comics # 1018

Picture: Peter J. Tomasi, Scott Godlewski / DC Comics

Oh no, now that Alfred has died, Bruce returns to the mansion in the middle of the night to make sure the dogs are running. Oh no, oh no

Action comics # 1018

PICTURED: Brian Michael Bendis, comics by John Romita Jr./DC

Melody Moore, a tough firefighter that Brian Bendis introduced in his very first Superman edition, reached an important administrative level when she announced her candidacy as Mayor of Metropolis.

Marauders # 5

Picture: Gerry Duggan, Matteo Lolli, Lucas Werneck / Marvel-Comics

Pictured: A very Emma Frost moment in the marauders this week. Not shown: The deviating catastrophic energy that emanates from this problem. Marauders are great.

Spider Man & Venom: Double Trouble # 3

Picture: Mariko Tamaki, Gurihiru / Marvel Comics

Spider-Man and Venom did a body swap in Spider-Man & Venom: Double Trouble. In this case, the swap was exchanged when they got into the body of a squirrel and a cat. Gurihiru always makes fantastic and cute art, but . just look at Cat-Venom and Squirrel-Spidey and Venom-cat and Spidey-squirrel.

X-Men # 4

PICTURED: Jonathan Hickman, Leinil Francis Yu / Marvel Comics

This week the X-Men went to Davos to address diplomats from other nations. It is an incredible problem with many highlights, including these. The Apocalypse worked very hard to bring about the Late Bronze Age collapse, and no one appreciates it.
