According to reports, Nintendo’s next console may not launch until early 2025, rather than 2024 as originally anticipated.
Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe, a Brazilian journalist, claims to have received this information from five separate sources. These sources have also stated that games targeting Q1 2025 are currently in development to launch alongside the new console. Eurogamer mentioned that, similarly, they had heard industry whispers of a delayed release, but could not provide definitive evidence to support this.
It’s been suggested that the delay in launching the next-gen Nintendo console is to allow for the development of stronger first-party software. This timeline could mirror that of the Switch, which was released in March, having been announced the previous year.
Eurogamer now supports these claims, confirming that the launch has been moved to Q1 2025.
While there has been no official comment from Nintendo, the company’s next-gen console was widely anticipated for release in 2024. During the latest earnings meeting, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa declined to comment on the next-generation console, emphasizing that the current Nintendo Switch will remain the company’s main business heading into 2024. Nintendo’s plan for the next fiscal year will be announced at its next earnings briefing in May.
Although a delay has shifted the launch into 2025, Nintendo’s next fiscal year will run until April 2025, potentially accommodating a console launch. It has also been suggested that the new Nintendo console could be priced at $400, with game prices potentially increasing to $70, aligning with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S titles.
