Octopath Traveler, the popular RPG developed by Square Enix and Acquire, has been removed from the Nintendo eShop for purchase. However, pre-purchased codes for the game from third-party retailers are still valid.

The publishing rights for Octopath Traveler changed hands in December, shifting from Nintendo to Square Enix. This move could be a hint that the game may be coming to other platforms in the future, particularly PlayStation consoles where it is currently not available, despite the sequel being released on Sony’s platform.

Recently, Kadokawa, the owner of FromSoftware, acquired Octopath Traveler Studio Acquire for an undisclosed sum. Acquire, based in Tokyo, is the studio behind not only Octopath Traveler but also the popular series like Tenchu, Way of the Samurai, and Abiba. With 148 employees, the studio was founded in 1994.

Kadokawa stated in a quarterly earnings report that acquiring Acquire Corp. as a wholly owned subsidiary will strengthen their ability to create IP in games and enhance their game business strategy. They anticipate generating synergies with their existing game-related subsidiaries, improving planning and development capabilities, and expanding their console game lineup.
