The Pokemon Trading Card Game launched in 1996 in Japan and has released over 100 different expansions since its debut. In August, the next main set, Scarlet and Violet – Obsidian Flames will be released, and then later in the year, Pokemon 151, a new expansion celebrating the original lineup of Pokemon, will also release.

A Pokemon Trading Card Game video game was released on the GameBoy in 1998 in Japan and worldwide in 2000. A Japan-only sequel was released a few years later.
