PokePark Kanto: A New Adventure Awaits Pokémon Fans
The Pokémon Company has just revealed plans for the exciting PokePark Kanto, set to launch next year at Yomiuriland in Japan. This groundbreaking theme park is a direct response to the feelings of isolation experienced during the pandemic, aiming to create a vibrant outdoor space where Pokémon enthusiasts can gather and connect.
PokePark Kanto marks a significant return for Pokémon-themed attractions, as the last permanent outdoor venture was merely a fleeting experience back in the early 2000s. Chief creative fellow Junichi Masuda holds a vision for this park that not only rekindles nostalgia, but also enhances the Pokémon experience.
A Sanctuary for Fans
Masuda emphasizes the importance of interaction, stating, “As a creator, having people communicate through Pokémon has always been important to me.” With large-scale Pokémon events being canceled during the COVID-19 pandemic, he expressed a strong desire to create a place where everyone can meet up and enjoy Pokémon at any given time.
This dynamic park will feature thrilling attractions like a Pokémon Center, a PokéMart, and a Pokémon Gym. While the specific functions of these iconic buildings remain a mystery, it’s likely the Pokémon Center will serve as a retail space akin to those found throughout Japan.
Immersive Experiences Like Never Before
Masuda’s vision focuses on stepping away from the digital realm and inviting fans to experience Pokémon in a tangible way. “In Pokémon GO, they may appear to be in the real world, but they aren’t really there when you reach out,” he explained. PokePark Kanto intends to rectify that by letting fans see and even touch Pokémon, an immersive experience that’s never before been attempted.
Adding to the excitement, Masuda confirmed that over 600 Pokémon will feature in the park. While this number likely encompasses the total amount of Pokémon rather than species, it creates hype for what’s to come, especially since the Kanto region itself is home to just 151 Pokémon species.
