Insomniac Games Reveals PC Specs for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Insomniac Games has revealed the PC specifications for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Surprisingly, the game won’t require an SSD, although it is recommended even for the minimum specs. This goes against previous suggestions from Insomniac that the game would only run on systems with an SSD.

In a video posted on the PlayStation YouTube channel before Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s release on PS5 in 2021, creative director Marcus Smith claimed that the game’s rift-traveling mechanic would not have been possible without the Solid State Drive of the PlayStation 5.

Smith stated, “The SSD is incredibly fast, allowing us to build worlds and project players from one place to another in near-instantaneous speeds. It’s a game changer that enables gameplay where you seamlessly transition between worlds.”

However, this claim was later toned down by game director Mike Daly, who stated that a game like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart could be made on the PS4, but with visual sacrifices.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will be released for PC on July 26, 2023. The game will be available on Steam and Epic Games Store. Players who pre-purchase the game will receive two in-game items early in their playthrough: the Pixelizer Weapon and Carbonox Armor set.
