Director Paul Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers, based on Robert A. Heinlein’s science fiction novel of the same name, will be adapted as a real-time strategy game for the PC. The RTS titled Starship Troopers – Terran Command promises, according to publisher Slitherine, a mix of classic real-time mechanics, tower defense, and use of tactical units.
Starship Troopers – Terran Command is under development by The Artistocrats, the Belgian studio behind the Order of Battle series and Commander: The Great War. According to Slitherine’s official announcement, The Artistocrats’ studio owner and principal designer, Lukas Nijsten, has been working on Starship Troopers – Terran Command for more than two years for release in 2020.
Starship Troopers – Terran Command plays in the same universe that was set in 1997 in the movie. The strategy game will send the players to a human colony that has been overrun by Arachnids, the alien insectoid race that is attacking in massive swarms. As mobile infantry, players must use choke points and raises to ward off the Arachnid threat.

“We wanted to capture the essence of the original movie and its universe,” said Iain McNeil, development director at Slitherine. “This is achieved not only by creating a coherent set of units and scenarios, but also by imitating the language, the visual elements, the dialogues, and the little details that have made the movie a cult object.”

Starship Troopers was also the basis for another real-time strategy game, Hasbro and Blue Tongue Entertainments Starship Troopers: Terran Ascendancy, which hit the PC in 2000.
