Capcom’s recently unveiled Resident Evil 3 remake will feature an asymmetric multiplayer mode called Resident Evil Resistance, in which a team of four survivors must try to escape a deadly experiment supervised by an opposing player controlling a character known as a mastermind.
Crucially, one of these survivors – Capcom has confirmed six of them – is Martin Sandwich. Capcom posted this important information on Twitter on Wednesday.

Of course, the obvious joke here is that Martin is somehow related to Jill Valentine, the butt of a horrible joke in the original Resident Evil. If you’ve missed this game, Barry Burton saves his STARS colleague Jill from dying in a trap in the spooky mansion of the game. “That was too close,” says Barry. “They were almost a Jill sandwich!”
It’s a classic, hellish moment in a game notorious for its clumsy dialogue.

Capcom changed the line for the Resident Evil remake – “A second time too late, they fit nicely into a sandwich,” Barry says in this version of the game – but later the company mocked Dead Rising, which had a restaurant called Jill’s sandwiches.
We do not know much about Mr. Sandwich except that he is a “seasoned engineer and mechanic who can make traps to slow down or stun enemies,” but he does not look particularly fond of having that name.
Martin will be joined by Becca, January, Samuel, Tyrone and Valerie in Resident Evil Resistance, which will be released on April 3, 2020 along with Capcom’s remake of Resident Evil 3. We played the Resistance mode at the Tokyo Game Show in September and found him having a lot of fun – especially playing as a sadistic mastermind.
