Saber Interactive’s website changes hint at possible sale

Recent changes on Saber Interactive’s website have sparked speculation about the studio’s potential sale. Reports from Bloomberg last month suggested that the studio might be sold to a group of private investors for up to $500 million.

Previously, the website proudly displayed the studio logo with the tagline “an Embracer Group company.” However, eagle-eyed users noticed that these references to Embracer Group have since been removed from the site. The bio section, which once highlighted Saber as a key business unit of Embracer Group, now simply describes Saber as a US-based developer and publisher of video games.

These changes indicate that the reports of a potential sale are likely accurate and could be finalized soon. If the deal goes through, Saber will become a privately owned company with approximately 3,500 employees spread across its studios worldwide.

Despite the changes, Saber’s work on the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is expected to continue post-acquisition. This news comes amidst Embracer Group’s efforts to streamline its operations by implementing a restructuring plan that involved significant job cuts and project cancellations. The company has confirmed the closure of studios and the cancellation of 29 unannounced games during a six-month period in 2023.
