Screen Burn: A New Era for Silent Hill Developers

In a surprising shift, developer NoCode has rebranded itself as Screen Burn. Known for their immersive titles like Silent Hill Townfall, the Glasgow-based studio aims to capture the nostalgic essence of gaming by referencing “the ghost of an image burned into an old CRT screen.”

Jon McKellan, founder and creative director, highlighted the evolution of the studio since its inception in 2015. “We’re not who we were,” he stated, emphasizing the addition of new talent, including coders. The new name reflects their commitment to the emotional depth of storytelling intertwined with the imperfect feel of old technology—elements that stay with players long after the game ends.

Embracing the Legacy of Silent Hill

Screen Burn is currently deep in development on Silent Hill Townfall, a title that pays homage to the original 1999 game on the PS1. McKellan’s excitement for this project is palpable. “It’s a real honour to bring a new title to this series,” he remarked, noting the importance of respecting its rich legacy while adding a fresh twist.

Although no gameplay was shown during the announcement, brief visuals hinted that this installment might adopt a first-person perspective. McKellan encourages fans to revisit the trailer, suggesting there might be hidden clues for keen-eyed viewers.

The rebranding to Screen Burn signals a new era for the developer, promising an enriched gaming experience that resonates with fans of classic horror while still appealing to newcomers.
