Ubisoft’s latest game, Skull and Bones, has already seen a major price drop just weeks after its release. The game, which was heavily delayed and revamped during development, finally hit shelves on February 16 priced at $69.99 / £69.99.
But now, retailers are offering significant discounts on the game. Best Buy is currently selling the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions for $44.99, while UK retailer Hit has them priced at £49.85.
During an earnings call before the game’s release, Ubisoft was questioned on why Skull and Bones was priced at $70, potentially limiting its player base. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot defended the price, claiming the game’s large scale justified the cost.
Despite the price drop, Ubisoft also released a free eight-hour trial for Skull and Bones on all platforms. Players can carry over their progress to the full game if they decide to make a purchase.
Originally planned as Ubisoft’s first $70 game, Skull and Bones faced delays, making Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora the first game at the increased price point. However, even Avatar saw a rapid price drop to $49.99 / £43.85 within two weeks of its release.
