SNK has exciting news for gamers as it announces a collaboration with ARIKA to bring back a beloved classic franchise from its extensive catalogue. This revival will focus on a non-fighting game franchise, showcasing SNK’s commitment to reviving past IPs.
With over 200 SNK-branded game contents, including Neo Geo, the company is dedicated to revamping and breathing new life into its classic games. By teaming up with ARIKA, known for their excellent game development capabilities, SNK aims to bring back a beloved title from the past.
One of the most well-known non-fighting game titles in SNK’s catalogue is Metal Slug, which last saw a new entry in 2008 with Metal Slug 7 on the Nintendo DS. Metal Slug XX, a compilation of previous titles, was released in 2009 and later on PS4 and PC.
Developer ARIKA has a strong track record, working on games like Endless Ocean Luminous, Chocobo GP, Super Mario Bros. 35, and Pac-Man 99. They also provided support for Tekken 7 and Tekken 8.
It’s also worth noting that SNK is now 96% owned by Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who acquired the majority stake in the company in 2022 through his Electronic Gaming Development Company. This ownership change signals a new chapter for the Japanese publisher and its iconic franchises.
