Sonic Frontiers already had upset the formula of the series by introducing a lots of changes. In Sonic Frontiers, on thus discover new mechanics as exploration of open areas and of new capabilities of combat and displacement. Entitled Sonic Versus Heartless and created by , this mod replaces Sora, protagonist of Kingdom Hearts III (and previous episodes), with Sonic. It’s already a feature interesting for some players, but that’s not all. Indeed, in the future the creator of the mod plans to include content inspired by Sega’s iconic series. We could thus discover boss personalized from cult scenes sonic games, animated cutscenes with his best known characters… In this mod, Sonic is not just a recolored Sora, he also has son own set of typical movementsand apparently handles the sword he carried in the game Sonic and the Dark Knight released for Wii in 2009.

That’s all we know for now, but the modder has promised to share more updates soon on the project. Needless to say, the fans of Sonic are very excited by what they have seen so far. Many see this as one of the best attempts to make Sonic an RPG, or something close to it. THE fans of Sonic and the Dark Knight also see it as a way to come full circle, with a mod that makes Kingdom Hearts III what the Wii game in 2009 could have been for the saga from Sega. It now remains to be seen whether this mod will be sufficiently updated to garner more and more new players.
Kingdom Hearts III has been available on PC, Switch, PS4, and Xbox One since 2019. Sonic Frontiers has been available since November on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Switch, PS4, and Xbox One.
