Square Enix Considering Plans for Remastering Old Titles
Square Enix is currently considering its plans for remastering some of its older titles, according to a recent statement made during the company’s 43rd Annual Shareholders’ Meeting Q&A. This comes following the successful release of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster earlier this year.
During the Q&A, a shareholder expressed their interest in seeing more remastered titles, specifically mentioning Xenogears. In response, a member of Square’s board stated, “We are considering various ideas within the company and hope that you will look forward to forthcoming announcements.”
Square Enix’s Release Schedule and Development Challenges
Another question directed towards Square Enix regarded the longer gaps between game releases compared to its peers. The board addressed this concern by emphasizing the difficulty of developing major titles and the impact it has on development lead times.
The board mentioned the strengthening of their internal development organization, which they believe will benefit not only the development of major titles but also new IPs under the new management team.
Upcoming Releases and Future Plans
In 2023, Square Enix has already released several titles including Forspoken, Theatrhythm Final Bar Line, Octopath Traveler 1, Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo, and Final Fantasy 16.
Upcoming releases include Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai – Infinity Strash, Star Ocean: The Second Story R, and Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince. Additionally, the next entry in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, is expected to be released in early 2024.
