Three episodes of The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda are still a mystery. The tiny green Force baby just floats in his little sleeping capsule, while the rest of the galaxy seems to have a fight over who can become his janitor.
The reason for this is unknown, but the latest episode of the series, “The Sin”, gives viewers an indication of what the Empire – or at least the remnants of the Empire – might be planning.
(Ed. Note: This post contains spoilers for the first three episodes of The Mandalorian and speculation about the rest of the plot.)
In the third episode of The Mandalorian we get a look at Dr. Pershing working on the caught baby Yoda. For a fraction of a second we look at his uniform more closely. On top of that is a box with a badge that looks like a broken line with a dot on top next to another line. While this may not seem like much at first, it turns out that this is not the first time we’ve seen it in Star Wars.
The Kamino emblem on Dr. Ing. Pershing’s sleeve
The emblem appears for the first time in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones when Obi-Wan visits the planet Kamino. If you do not remember that part . well, you’re forgiven . the movie is . not great. Here’s a quick refresher: Kamino is the planet where scientists have cloned bounty hunter Jango Fett into a whole army to serve the Republic. (Fett was mostly wearing Mandalorian armor, though he was not actually a Mandalorian, much like our hero, the Mandalorian.) On the arm of each of the clone uniforms we see the same symbol as Dr. Mandalorian. Pershing wears.

The two symbols look very similar, with the only difference being the horizontal line under the two vertical lines on Dr. Ing. Pershing’s sleeve is. Although we know that the Empire shut down the Kamino cloning facilities after taking control of the galaxy, this does not necessarily mean that it has killed cloning science. It seems possible that the Empire has confiscated the technology and brought it under its own control, hence the slight change of the emblem.
Wait, is Baby Yoda a clone?
The Easter egg lends credibility to the theory that Baby Yoda has something to do with cloning. This may be an indication that Baby Yoda is really a Yoda clone. Or it could mean that the customer wants to clone Baby Yoda. Maybe that’s why they talk about extracting material from it. In any case, it is also important to ask who exactly is trying to get Baby Yoda as well.
The customer wears and Lucasfilm imperial emblem
Based on their Stormtrooper rackets, The Client and Dr. Pershing to work for the remnants of the Empire. After all, the character of Werner Herzog wears a necklace with the emblem of the Empire. It is possible that these two work for the same organization that will eventually become the First Order, or that they are only connected to the Empire. As the trailers of The Rise of Skywalker already indicated that Emperor Palpatine is not really dead, the customer may be working on his orders. There’s probably a reason why Disney Plus is planning the penultimate episode of Season 1 ahead of Rise of Skywalker and the finale thereafter.
Whatever his intent, we will certainly learn more about it as the Mandalorian continues. Right now, we can just rely on Mando bringing Baby Yoda back and saving him from any clone-centered plot he’s involved in.
