Star Wars Outlaws: New Details Revealed by Creative Director Julian Gerighty

In a recent interview with Edge (via GamesRadar), Ubisoft’s creative director Julian Gerighty shared exciting new information about the highly anticipated open-world game, Star Wars Outlaws.

Size of In-Game Planets and Protagonist Influenced by Han Solo

Gerighty discussed the scale of the in-game planets, comparing them to zones in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. “It’s a crude analogy, but the size of one planet might be about equivalent to two of the zones in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey,” Gerighty revealed. However, he emphasized that it would not be a massive recreation of the entire planet. The planets in Outlaws will be manageable in size for both players and developers at Ubisoft Massive.

Handcrafted Planets and Locations

Gerighty also clarified that all planets and locations in Star Wars Outlaws are being meticulously crafted, rather than being procedurally generated. This ensures a high level of detail and a more immersive experience for players.

Meet Kay Vest: The Outlaw Protagonist

Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Star Wars Outlaws introduces its protagonist, Kay Vest. Gerighty explained that Kay Vest is influenced by iconic scoundrels like Han Solo, Lando, Indiana Jones, James Bond, and Captain Jack Sparrow. However, Ubisoft wanted Kay Vest to be a more relatable character, a rookie and petty thief who finds themselves caught up in a much bigger situation than they ever imagined.

Release Date and Platforms

Star Wars Outlaws is set to release in 2024 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC through Ubisoft Connect.
