Get ready, gamers! Super Smash Bros Ultimate is hosting its 99th Spirit Board event, and it seems like it will be the last one.
This event will introduce new spirits from Princess Peach Showtime and Super Mario Bros Wonder, a first for the game. If you’re not familiar with Spirit Board events, they are special limited-time events in the Spirits mode where players face off in battles with unique rules to collect ‘spirits’ (artwork) of various Nintendo and third-party characters. With over 1500 spirits in the game, there’s plenty to collect.
Since the game’s release in December 2018, Nintendo has been running regular events on the Spirit Board, offering themed spirits and special rewards like extra gold, SP, or XP. If you’re aiming to collect them all, you’ll want to keep an eye out for these events to make sure you don’t miss any new spirits.
By January 2022, a total of 94 Spirit Board events had taken place, and it seemed like they had come to an end. However, on December 8, 2023, Nintendo surprised fans with a new event to mark the game’s fifth anniversary, and announced four more events for 2024.
Three of these events have already happened, featuring spirits from various games like The Legend of Zelda, Xenoblade Chronicles, Splatoon, Pikmin, and more. Now, the fourth event, called Showtime and Wonder Spirits, will kick off on March 22 and wrap up on March 27, bringing in spirits from Princess Peach Showtime and Super Mario Bros Wonder.
Nintendo has confirmed that this event is the final one planned for 2024, making it the 99th Spirit Board event for Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Keep an eye out for more surprises in the future!
