Big Upgrade for Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake on Switch 2
Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake just got a shiny new update for Switch 2 owners. This was announced during the Japanese segment of the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, much to the excitement of the gaming community.
The update promises “graphical improvements which make the game appear sharper and smoother,” raising expectations for a resolution boost. The Switch 2’s capability of supporting a maximum resolution of 2160p compared to the original Switch’s 1080p hints at a significant quality upgrade.
But that’s not all! Players can look forward to additional options that let them prioritize either frame rate or graphics. This tweak is sure to enhance the gaming experience, allowing players to tailor performance based on their preferences.
What Does This Mean for Current Players?
It’s crucial to note that this update focuses on visuals—Square Enix has confirmed that “no changes have been made to the story or which items can be obtained in the game.” So, Switch owners can breathe easy knowing they aren’t missing out on any extra content.
After its successful launch last year, where it became the only game to sell over a million copies physically in Japan, the anticipation for updates has been sky-high. Players flooded social media with images, showing the game was sold out at various retailers almost immediately after release.
Looking ahead, Square Enix is set to follow up this hit with the Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake, dropping on October 30 across several platforms, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. However, it’s important to remember that this new title won’t feature a Switch 2 upgrade option, and save data from the original Switch won’t transfer over. Each version stands alone, with no upgrade path available.
With both games offering the same content, the difference simply lies in the graphical specifications determined by the hardware’s processing capabilities. For gamers, this means that while the visuals will vary, the core experience remains intact.
