Warframe is a great game with a notoriously difficult learning curve. Amazing quests like The Second Dream can hide behind dozens of hours of gameplay, and there are a lot of mechanisms and goals to consider. When the new extension Empyrean was announced at the Tennocon, the Warframe Fan Convention, it seemed like an exclusive endgame activity.
Luckily that is not the case. While only advanced players can construct and customize their own railjack, new players can get into Empyrean content anytime.
Empyrean offers spaceship co-op action for four players, similar to Sea of Thieves. Players must manage their ship, repair it, and fight hordes of enemy ships. Empyrean also offers traditional warframe battles with boarding parties. Players can either hijack enemy ships to control or destroy them, or enemy boarding ships can connect to the railjack.
There will be a queue for players with an Archwing who can participate in a Railjack mission. The space-efficient ultra-fast Archwing is relatively easy to get; Players will acquire it after the tutorial as soon as they have completed the second planet. Players receive affinity, the experience resource required to level their equipment, and experience and rewards in the Empyrean content trees.
The Railjack has been designed to be accessible to those who have not dug deep into Warframe.
“A new player should be able to intuitively take control of the pilot’s controls and side towers and have fun immediately. When it comes to extinguishing fires, you need to learn a bit – you need to get into your gear to get your fire extinguisher out. So that’s one level down, “said Dave Kudirka, senior producer of Warframe, to Polygon. “Right after the jump you can get in and fly, shoot, jump out of the plane and be an Archwing and see how it works right away.”
Polygon experienced Empyrean through a test setup at Digital Extremes. The mode is still in work, but the chaotic, team-based gameplay promises a lot.
