Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker is the end of an era, the culmination of the Skywalker saga, and the farewell to characters we’ve known for 40 years.
But as fans of spinoff anthology films like Rogue One and Solo and shows like The Mandalorian know, there’s still a whole galaxy of Star Wars stories to discover. While Disney boss Bob Iger says Lucasfilm will take a little break after the Skywalker saga ends, a pipeline full of movies and TV shows is waiting to be launched. Amidst a flood of rumored and canceled projects – most recently Game of Thrones developers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss have left a trilogy – there are some solid projects that are under development. Not all of them have specific dates or even more than one name, but here’s everything we know so far.
The next Star Wars film
With the Skywalker Saga in the rearview mirror (do Corellian light freighters have these?) Plans for the next cycle of Star Wars features are on the move. According to a new report by The Hollywood Reporter, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy is waiting for a director to be released in January for 2022. After The Rise of Skywalker ends, we’re still waiting for Broom Boy to continue .
Kevin Feige’s Star Wars film
The President of Marvel Studios is reportedly working with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy to develop a new Star Wars film and usher in a “new era of Star Wars storytelling” Hollywood reporter: “Feige has told a leading actor, that there is a certain role that he would like to play when he makes the film. “
The Rian Johnson Star Wars trilogy
Lucasfilm was announced in advance of (and before the controversy surrounding) The Last Jedi and commissioned Rian Johnson to direct a completely new trilogy in the Star Wars universe. It will include new characters and may take place in a completely different era, a sharp departure from the insular Skywalker saga.
“We all loved working with Rian on” The Last Jedi, “” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, in a statement. “He is a creative force and it was one of the great joys of my career to see him make the last Jedi from start to finish. Rian will do amazing things with the blank screen of this new trilogy.”
The production for this trilogy is undefined, and while Johnson is sketching out plans, he could make another film beforehand. Disney originally had Benioff and Weiss’ Star Wars films for 2022, 2024 and 2026 on the calendar, but it is uncertain whether Johnson’s trilogy or Feige’s undisclosed project will use these slots – or whether they will simply remain vacant.

The Mandalorian Season 2
While promoting The Lion King (2019), showrunner Jon Favreau said that he had already written a second season – months before Disney Plus even came on the market. He confirmed a second season in November and posted a picture of the Mandalorian helmet on Instagram titled “Greetings from the set of #TheMandalorian season 2”. Since the first season is still going on, we know very little about what to expect season 2 – or if it is at all. Hopefully Baby Yoda is still there.

The Rogue One Prequel TV Show
Before being torn to pieces on Scarif’s beaches, Diego Luna will repeat the role of Cassian Andor. “It is very special for me to return to the Star Wars universe,” Luna said in a statement. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made during the trip. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us and this new exciting format gives us the opportunity to explore this character more deeply. “
Filming is slated to begin in 2020 and Alan Tudyk will also become droid K-2SO. There is no title for the show, but at D23 Tudyk suggested an idea: “I think K-2Fast, K-2Furious: A story by Cassian Andor.”

Obi-Wan’s television show
Rumors of an Obi-Wan film have been circulating since the first concept for the film “Star Wars Story” was created, but this idea seems to be on hold for the time being. Instead, Kathleen Kennedy confirmed in August 2019 that Ewan McGregor in the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in a series for Disney Plus would return to the Star Wars universe.
The show will take place eight years after Revenge of the Sith, and Deborah Chow, director of two episodes of The Mandalorian, will act as director for all episodes. Hossein Amini (Drive) will write the series. Filming is scheduled to begin in 2020, but no release date, title, or other information about the castings has been released.

Clone Wars Season 7
The popular cartoon series Star Wars: The Clone Wars will return to Disney Plus for a final season in February 2020. The return of the show was announced during San Diego Comic Con 2018 during a panel to mark the show’s tenth anniversary. Dave Filoni, who measures time on The Mandalorian, returns as a showrunner. The season is expected to focus on the siege of Mandalore.
Although Star Wars: The Clone Wars previously aired on Cartoon Network, all six seasons are currently available on Disney Plus. The new one will also debut in the streaming service.
Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge
Think Nickelodeon’s Legends of the Hidden Temple meet Star Wars and you get the kid-friendly game show that comes to Disney Plus in 2020. Ahmed Best, the man behind Jar Jar himself, will appear as a brand new canonical Jedi.
“This is definitely a children’s game show like no other,” said Mickey Capoferri, Senior Director Online Content & Programming at Lucasfilm, in a press release. “The various challenges will test the connection of a padawan to the armed forces in three locations – a forest planet, aboard a Jedi Star Cruiser and in a Jedi Temple – and immerse them and the audience in a fun, humorous and exciting competition.”
