Ubisoft starts development on a Black Flag remake

Ubisoft has recently started development on a remake of the popular Assassin’s Creed game, Black Flag, according to sources from Kotaku. The remake of this cross-gen game from 2013, originally released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, is still in its early stages and is expected to take “at least a few years” to complete.

The development team at Ubisoft Singapore, known for their work on Black Flag’s boating gameplay, will play a significant role in modernizing the game and giving it a fresh feel.

Focus on the Assassin’s Creed franchise

Ubisoft is currently focusing heavily on its flagship franchise. One of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed games, Assassin’s Ceed Mirage, was discussed during a Ubisoft product showcase last year, along with five other upcoming titles.

The next installments in the series, codenamed Red and Hexe, will be part of the new Assassin’s Creed Infinity franchise hub. Red, being developed by Ubisoft Quebec, known for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, will take place in feudal Japan. The creative director for Odyssey is also involved in the development of Red. Following Red, Ubisoft Montreal will launch Hexe, which reportedly involves witch trials during the latter stages of the Holy Roman Empire.

Other projects

Aside from the Black Flag remake and Assassin’s Creed Infinity, Ubisoft has other interesting projects in the works. They are developing a standalone Assassin’s Creed multiplayer game, a mobile game called Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade set in China, and another mobile series entry in collaboration with Netflix.
