Ubisoft Confirms New Ghost Recon Game in Development

Ubisoft Teases New Ghost Recon Development

Ubisoft executives have dropped an exciting bombshell: a new Ghost Recon game is officially in the works, and it’s hinting at a shift toward a first-person shooter format.

During a recent annual meeting reported by Game File, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot and CFO Frederick Duguet addressed shareholders, confirming the development of this upcoming title. This marks the first time the gaming community has heard about a new entry in the beloved franchise.

Context for the Excitement

While discussing Ubisoft’s strategy for growth, Guillemot cited the success of Rainbow Six Siege as a model for live service games. He emphasized the goal of not only enhancing existing titles but also launching new ones, such as the next The Division and this new Ghost Recon project.

Duguet elaborated on their plans for investment, revealing that part of the funding from Tencent will be allocated to “future development of other major brand names.” This includes the new Ghost Recon, emphasizing its role in the line-up of first-person shooter titles.

Challenges and Future Prospects

Fans might recall that the last installment, Breakpoint, had a rocky reception, failing to live up to expectations both commercially and critically. This led Ubisoft to reassess its schedule, postponing several big titles to ensure they meet player needs. Furthermore, the cancellation of the live service game Ghost Recon Frontline adds to the anticipation surrounding this new project.

An Ubisoft representative assured fans that “Ghost Recon is an important and beloved brand for Ubisoft and our players,” promising more information when it’s ready to be shared.
