Rhythm Game Legends Unite for a New Venture
Veterans of the rhythm game genre have just dropped some electrifying news—RedOctane Games is born! This small yet ambitious studio is staffed by the original creators behind Guitar Hero and DJ Hero, joining forces with fresh talent and community leaders to craft unique rhythm-based experiences.
The studio recently announced that it’s developing a variety of rhythm-based titles, with its first major reveal set for later this year. Excitement is in the air, as this venture promises to reinvent how players interact with rhythm games and music.
Meet the Team Behind the Beat
At the helm of RedOctane is Simon Ebejer, a production director on several Guitar Hero titles from the iconic team at Neversoft. Ebejer’s impressive resume also includes leadership roles at Vicarious Visions and Blizzard Entertainment, marking him as a key figure in bringing rhythm gaming to life.
For those who may not know, RedOctane itself was the publisher of the original Guitar Hero and the PS2 version of Guitar Hero 2 before becoming an Activision subsidiary in a $100 million deal. However, the studio was closed in 2010. Now, the Huang brothers, Kai and Charles, are stepping back into the spotlight as special advisors for the new RedOctane, putting their expertise to use as they guide the next generation of rhythm games.
“Rhythm games are about more than just gameplay—they’re about feel, flow, and connection to the music and to each other,” said Ebejer. With this new venture, the team aims to push the genre forward while honoring its rich legacy.
The development community is buzzing with anticipation. Fans of rhythm games are eager to see how RedOctane Games will reinterpret the music game landscape, fostering deeper connections through innovative gameplay.
