The year 2019 was not the best in terms of Disney’s live-action remakes of its animated classics, but thanks to Mulan, it looks like the wheel could turn around in 2020.
The first look at the live action of Mulan made it clear that the new film, directed by Niki Caro, would not be like the previous trailer a shot-for-shot remake of its predecessor. Liu Yifei plays Mulan, the legendary warrior who took the place of her aging father in the army. The rest of the cast shows Donnie Yen as Mentor Commander Tung, Yoson An as fellow soldier (and love interest), Chen Honghui, Tzi Ma as Mulan’s father and Jet Li as Emperor of China.
The new trailer gives a closer look at some of the changes, in particular showing Gong Li as a “mighty witch” who can turn himself into a bird, and Jason Scott Lee as Bori Khan, who seems to be an analog for the animated film’s Shan Yu ,

Mulan will be released in cinemas on March 27, 2020.
