Baldur’s Gate 3: A Surprising and Successful RPG
There is no denying it: Baldur’s Gate 3 is THE surprise of the year… If one knew that the studio Larian was working on something good and unique, no one could foresee such a tidal wave. We are still talking about the best-rated PC game of all time on the ratings aggregator Metacritic – ahead of monsters like Half-Life 2, Grand Theft Auto V, or Bioshock -; the second biggest launch of the year on Steam (after Hogwarts Legacy). And again, the PS5 version, expected on September 6, has not yet arrived. In short, for a “niche” title, modeled on the rules of Dungeons and Dragons, it’s a pretty impressive performance. Especially since many of its aspects can be confusing.
When Baldur’s Gate 3 gets more “grand public”
Yes, beyond the throwing of the dice, there are two very simple things that can put off those who are not used to C-RPGs: the camera in isometric view and movements with the mouse. A detail that has not escaped the modders, these smart individuals who create new features for their favorite games. And even though Baldur’s Gate 3 arrived on PC only two weeks ago, the role-playing game already has more than 700 mods as can be seen on the NexusMods benchmark site.
Among them, one finds the “Camera Movement Mod” and the “Character Control Mod” – which make it possible to address the two “defects” mentioned earlier. The first allows you to move your character with the usual keys on the keyboard; the second allows you to place the camera behind your character, like any other action-adventure RPG game including The Witcher 3. Here is a small video preview.
