The long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong just made headlines again, especially after its feature during the recent Xbox Games Showcase. Xbox president Sarah Bond sparked excitement when she stated that Silksong would be available at launch and in Game Pass when the ROG Xbox Ally handheld releases later this year.

However, as fans began to speculate about a tie-in with the handheld, Matthew Griffin, who oversees marketing for developer Team Cherry, set the record straight. In a Discord post shared on Reddit, he clarified that Silksong isn’t tied to any specific console launch, saying, “I confirmed BEFORE holiday.” This statement indicates that while Silksong will indeed be available on the ROG Xbox Ally, it won’t debut alongside the device.

Originally announced back in 2019 for PC and Switch, Silksong has consistently kept fans on their toes. Over the years, Team Cherry has confirmed its release for Xbox and PlayStation consoles as well. It also made an appearance during a presentation for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year, leading some players to worry about the development focus shifting solely to Nintendo’s new hardware. Griffin addressed those concerns on social media, emphasizing, “Just to clarify, Hollow Knight: Silksong is coming to both Nintendo Switch AND the Nintendo Switch 2.”

The release timeline for Silksong has become something of a running joke in the gaming community, especially with its anticipated release being delayed multiple times. Every time a major gaming showcase like Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase rolls around, hopes rise that a release date will finally be announced. Back in June 2022, there was buzz about the game potentially launching within a year, but Griffin later indicated in May 2023 that it had faced more delays without disclosing a specific date.

Now, with Griffin’s recent hint about a release occurring “before Holiday [2025],” players may finally be able to take a breath and mark their calendars. As excitement builds, the gaming community remains eager to explore the new adventures that await in Hollow Knight: Silksong.
