Final Fantasy 16 May Be Heading to Nintendo Switch 2
In a surprise twist, Series Producer Naoki Yoshida seems to be hinting at a port of Final Fantasy 16 for the Nintendo Switch 2. This revelation came during a recent live stream, where Yoshida addressed the newly announced Xbox port.
When asked about the possibility of a Switch version, he quipped, “it’s just Nintendo left,†to which Creative Director Kazutoyo Maehiro quickly chimed in, promising to “do my best.†This lively exchange has sent fans buzzing about the potential for the iconic RPG to make its way onto Nintendo’s latest console.
A Shift in Strategy for Square Enix
Since its debut as a PlayStation 5 exclusive in 2023, Final Fantasy 16 has garnered significant attention. Just this month, it was also confirmed for Xbox Series X/S, signaling a crucial shift in Square Enix’s approach to its beloved franchises. This evolution was further emphasized when they announced that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will be available on Xbox platforms, alongside exciting news about a Nintendo Switch 2 version.
This move away from exclusivity comes in light of Square Enix’s admission that the sales for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Final Fantasy 16 “did not meet expectations.†Their new multiplatform strategy aims to foster a global gaming community that embraces all its major titles, opening doors to a wider audience.
As Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy Remake, hinted, it appears that the entire series could find a home on the Nintendo Switch 2. This indicates that fans of the franchise might have a chance to experience their favorite titles in a whole new way, maximizing the potential reach of these culturally iconic games.
