Xbox exclusive Scorn coming to PS5
The developer, Ebb Software, has announced that the first-person horror adventure game, Scorn, will be available on PS5 later this year. Previously released on Xbox Series X/S and PC on October 14, 2022, Scorn will now also be playable on Sony’s console.
Immersive gameplay experience with DualSense
In a blog post on the official PlayStation Blog, Jovan Vučković, the technical artist, highlighted the unique features of the PS5 version. He mentioned, “As we were developing the game for PlayStation 5, we finally had the opportunity to tap into the potential of the DualSense wireless controller to immerse you even further in this twisted world, extending the synesthetic experience of Scorn.”
Vučković further explained, “It allows us to deepen the player’s immersion and to let the whole world ‘breathe’ in a new way. Since there is no spoken dialogue in the game, we have put a strong emphasis on environmental storytelling, hence haptics are a great addition to this peculiar audio-visual experience.”
Enhanced haptic feedback and controls
With the DualSense controller, players will experience enhanced haptic feedback. Vučković noted, “The main character in the game interacts with the world mostly by using his hands. Most of these interactions are also painful for the character. That’s where haptics comes into play.”
In addition, the adaptive triggers provide a unique feeling of weight for each weapon, and the light bar displays the player’s health.
Deluxe physical edition and release date
The PS5 release of Scorn will also include a deluxe physical edition. This edition features a steelbook case, a digital artbook, and a digital soundtrack.
While the release date for the PS5 version is yet to be confirmed, it is unlikely to be before October 14, 2023, considering the exclusivity period on Xbox.
Mixed critical reception
Upon its initial release, Scorn received mixed reviews from critics. The Xbox and PC versions earned Metacritic scores of 64 and 70, respectively. In AsumeTech’s 2-star Scorn review, it was highlighted, “Scorn has one of the most beautiful worlds you’ll see in a game (if you can see beauty in the grotesque). It’s just a shame that the world is also home to a frustrating puzzle-heavy adventure filled with aimless wandering.”
