Gas fired at protesters in Khartoum near the presidential palace

Today, Monday, Sudanese police fired tear gas at protesters near the Republican Palace in the center of the capital, Khartoum.

While the demonstrators called for the establishment of a full civilian government, far from the participation of the military.

They also expressed their rejection of the political agreement signed last month between army commander Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok.

Civil choice of the people

In addition, thousands of Sudanese who descended on the capital chanted “No, no to military government” and “Civilization is the people’s choice”, according to the AFP.

Other cities, including Kassala, Sennar and Port Sudan, have seen similar protests.

The coordination of the Resistance Committees in the state of Khartoum yesterday called for decentralized demonstrations at the beginning of what it called the “revolutionary escalation program” for the month of December to express the rejection of the political agreement signed on November 21, as well as the army decisions issued on 25 October.

Demonstrations have continued since the announcement of this agreement in some regions of Sudan by civilian groups to express their rejection and condemnation.

The terms of the agreement

Interestingly, the deal signed by Al-Burhan and Hamdok at the presidential palace in Khartoum last month returned quest’latest to his position in order to form a new government, replacing the previous government, of which the military announced its dissolution on 25 October.
