Geagea: I will appear before the judiciary when Hassan Nasrallah appears before him

The leader of the “Lebanese Forces” party, Samir Geagea, responded to current news reports on the military court’s request to hear his testimony at the “Tayouneh” events, demanding that the leader of the Hezbollah militia, Hassan Nasrallah, be brought in for first before the judiciary.

And the news agency “Reuters” quoted today, Thursday, sources that it called “informed”, confirming that the Lebanese military court will request Geagea’s testimony on the violence that broke out last Thursday in thearea of Tayouneh in Beirut.

The sources state: “The government commissioner at the military court, Judge Fadi Akiki, gave the signal to listen to the testimony of the head of the” Lebanese Forces “party, Samir Geagea, in the Tayouneh file, against the background of confessions made by the detainees in this file. Judge Akiki’s reference requires that Geagea be heard before him in court. military”.

For its part, Agence France-Presse cited a “judicial source” according to which Akiki “instructed the investigative branch of the army’s secret services to summon Geagea and take his statement, based on information provided by members of the forces, who were arrested “against the backdrop of tensions in Tayouneh.

The army secret services are conducting the investigation. According to the judicial source, 26 people were arrested, most of them supporters of the “Lebanese Forces” and residing in thearea by Ain al-Rummaneh.

In response to this news, Geagea said in an interview with MTV tonight: “If it is true that the military tribunal wants to hear my words, it should listen to Hassan Nasrallah first.” He justified this with the fact that the party “forces”, and since the end of the civil war, has not violated it, and is a registered party, in one moment in which Hezbollah is not registered with the Interior Ministry and has a number of impurities and elements accused of many things.

Geagea also considered that Nasrallah’s speech, which he made on Monday, accusing the “forces” and Geagea of the events in Tayouneh, “was full of errors and was not based on truth”. He continued: “The events of Tayouneh – Ain al-Remmaneh, I consider it a disturbing event that has cost us many injured in Ain al-Remmaneh and many victims in the suburb”.

When asked about his fear that the judiciary would fabricate a file for him, Geagea replied, “The days of the old days are over and the days of the Church of Our Lady of Salvation (a case after which Geagea entered in prison in the 1990s under the Syrian tutelage of Lebanon) are over and we will never allow those days to return. “

Geagea confirmed that several groups of Lebanese have gathered around him and “forces now, saying that the Lebanese are tired of Hezbollah, its practices and the situation we have reached, and this is the result of bad policies”.

And he felt that “Nasrallah is in a great crisis, he relied on the possibility of changing the judicial investigator (by blowing up the port of Beirut) and failed in the legal means, so he had no choice but to attack the government, which in turn rejected this issue ” , so he wanted to make bloody events similar to those that occurred on May 7, 2008 to impose his will.

Geagea confirmed that he did not know who fired the first bullet in the events of “Tayouneh”, but confirmed that the first 4 wounded were in Ain al-Remmaneh.

He stressed that Hezbollah’s only goal now is to stop investigations into the Beirut port explosion, adding that the militia’s refusal of all means of investigation and investigators raises suspicions of its involvement in the bombing.

This was the worst bloody violence in Lebanon in more than ten years, and the Hezbollah militia has accused the “Lebanese forces” of being responsible, a charge that Geagea denies.

The violence came following a demonstration called by Hezbollah, and its ally, the Amal Movement, to denounce the investigation conducted by the forensic investigator, Judge Tariq Al-Bitar, into the explosion in the port of Beirut on August 3. 2020. Hezbollah and the Amal movement demand the dismissal of the judge, accusing him of partiality.

The clashes continued with machine guns and propelled grenades for several hours, and resulted in the killing of 7 members or supporters of Hezbollah and the Amal Movement.

And during the demonstration, heavy shootings took place. The investigation has not yet determined its parts, but the images and reports of the media published showed the participation of elements of Hezbollah and Amal in the shooting, and bullets fired from buildings in the nearby area by Ain al-Rummaneh, which is considered in mostly from the “Lebanese Forces” party.

Hezbollah accused the “snipers” of the “Lebanese Forces” party of shooting, which the “forces” denied, pointing out that the clashes erupted after the demonstrators passed through a street in Ain al-Remmaneh, breaking auto and assaulting property private.
