There are 212 days from now until the start of the 2020 NBA Draft, and Georgia guard Anthony Edwards is scheduled to play a college basketball game in at least 26 of them. After what we saw on Tuesday afternoon, it might be good to keep saying that anyone, anywhere, will be the first candidate to be selected first overall.
Through the Georgia and Michigan World Game Round, the exciting game of NBA rivals, including the Golden State Warriors ‘Larry Harris and the Boston Celtics’ Danny Ainge, had to wonder if they made a mistake at 9 : 30am Then Edwards decided to join them.
And to entertain them.

With his team missing 27 points in the second half and contributing to a four-sided drop, Edwards received a pass from Tyree Cupp and connected on a layup. Edwards scored 31 extra points in the remaining 16 minutes, including seven 3-pointers. For the next 5 minutes, Michigan State’s huge pencil cut into just one basket.
The Spartans survived the Edwards attack – and their own defensive issues – to leave the game with a 93-85 victory, but these 37 points from Edwards suggested that the Bulldogs could find a way to impose on the SEC and that Edwards can be as good as any player to be investigated by the NBA in the next seven months.
Sporting News analyst Chris Stone had Edwards at No. 2, behind North Carolina freshman Cole Anthony in his latest model for Sporting News. The ESPN analyst team was talking about LaMelo Ball, who plays professionally in the Australian NBL with an average of 16.3 points, 6.7 assists and 38% shooting from the floor.
Memphis center James Wiseman is a common pick for the top pick, but is absent from the Tigers games as he serves a 12-game NCAA suspension. No one is going to make a choice so important than a game. But if they did, those three players – and all of those who are thinking of becoming the first overall player – would have a hard time matching what Edwards did against the Spartans.
Anthony Edwards was marginally ruthless for Georgia in the second half against the state of Michigan. You’ll see at least five clips of this game over and over again when we get to the spring drafting season.

The question now is whether Georgia can lead Edwards to a better season than the first 60 minutes of basketball offered on Maui. The Bulldogs
were exhausted by Dayton in the first round on Maui, 80-61, and dropped 21 points in the first half against MSU. That’s minus-40 points in a fairly short stretch, and Edwards scored just 10 points in that time frame.
After taking over the game against MSU, the Bulldogs were a plus 19.
There may be more to the Bulldogs if they get more from Edwards in the SEC game.
