German Economics Minister Robert Habeck said that Germany is expected to sign contracts for the purchase of liquefied natural gas from the United Arab Emirates next Sunday.
“Gas supplies are growing slowly. The government is constantly negotiating with many countries,” the German economy minister told Reuters, recalling his trip to Qatar and the UAE last March.
In March, sources said that liquefied natural gas talks between Germany and Qatar were dominated by disagreements over key terms, including the length of any contract.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will travel to Saudi Arabia next Saturday for an official two-day visit to the Kingdom as part of a Gulf tour that also includes the UAE and Qatar.
Before that, the German news agency quoted a diplomatic source at the German embassy in Riyadh as saying that Chancellor Schultz “attaches great importance to the outcome of his upcoming talks with the Crown Prince, Prince Mohammed bin Salman and a number of members of the Saudi government.”
