Gervonta Davis certainly knows how to keep things interesting.
“Tank” pushed Yuriorkis Gamboa between his two attempts to lift weight on Friday. Focusing on his second attempt ensured that the vacant WBA world lightweight title would be in jeopardy on Saturday night when Davis faces Gamboa at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The 25-year-old Davis will try to add material to his two kings as a world super featherweight champion.

Earlier in the week, Davis described Gamboa as “reddish” after the Cuban fighter said he had no trouble watching the Baltimore crash, Ricardo Nunez’s second quarter of TKO since July. Gamboa’s comment drew Davis’ anger.
“I’m pretty sure Gamboa watched my last fight,” Davis told reporters during the final press conference on the race. “He just says he wasn’t malicious, I know he at least saw that he was going to this race. We’ll see him on Saturday night, he’s a little loose, so I have to make him pay.”
Whether it is adding another knockout to his impeccable record (22-0 with 21 KOs), it remains to be debated.
“I can’t say if I’m going to get the knockout, but I’ve trained really hard and focused on the main goal, which is to win,” Davis added. “I know Gamboa is a tough opponent and he will put it all in line. If he goes 12 rounds, it doesn’t matter to me. I’m looking to do this great fight for myself and also for the fans.”
The 38-year-old Gamboa (30-2, 18 KOs) says he will be a game challenge for “Tank”, no matter how fun Davis is in delivering huge knockouts.
“Gervonta beating his opponents and not going beyond the ninth round is great for him, but I don’t think he has anything to do with my resume,” Gamboa told reporters earlier in the week. “I’ve faced stronger fighters than Gervonta and I was able to beat them. It’s not going to bring anything I haven’t seen.”
Will Davis not show any of his scale issues and deliver another KO, or will Gamboa be his toughest test?
