Gotion Inc., a Chinese electric vehicle battery parts manufacturer, has reportedly increased its proposed plant size and job creation amid uncertainty that the project will go ahead. The company has announced plans to add two 500,000 square foot plants near Big Rapids, Michigan, calling for an additional 200-300 jobs on a site that would span 3 million square feet across six buildings in Mecosta County. While the company initially planned for its $2.4 billion investment to cover four buildings totaling 2 million square feet, it has yet to outline what the increased project size will cost. The plant will manufacture anode and cathode materials for EV batteries and will be the company’s first in the US. Gotion has yet to make a final commitment to the project, which has faced resistance from some members of the community and will require government approval to move forward.
