GTA 6 release date latest
Gamers are more than ready to play GTA 6 on PS5 and Xbox Series X but look set to wait longer for the chance. The latest on the subject suggests that Rockstar Games might not be ready to launch its next-gen Grand Theft Auto project until 2023, and some think the wait could be longer.
For many, this can prove baffling, considering how long it has been since GTA 5 came out on Xbox 360 and PS3.
The game continues to endure in popularity, mainly down to the ongoing success of GTA Online.
From an outsider outlook, it makes sense that you would want the GTA 6 release date to arrive around the same time as the next generation of consoles. But others have pointed out that by waiting a few more years, the next Grand Theft Auto game will have a more extensive install base on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
This is important to note, as GTA 6 will not be available to play on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One consoles.
But a lot of discourse surrounding the next Grand Theft Auto game and other titles like it continue without any input from the company in charge of developing them.
Gamers are relying on quotes, reports and rumours being shared online, or by analysts watching the markets.
So when an update is shared by Take-Two Interactive regarding a big franchise like Grand Theft Auto or Red Dead Redemption, it’s worth taking a look.
Take-Two Interactive CEO, Strauss Zelnick, recently shared his views on how popular entertainment products like GTA can be, if treated in the correct way.
Comparing it to James Bond and other enduring franchises, Zelnick shared his thoughts on what key factors need to be in place for a product to last so long and continue to entertain fans in 2021.
Zelnick explained during the Jefferies Virtual Global Interactive Entertainment Conference: “If it’s really really great it’ll keep going.
“You would like every franchise to be James Bond. There are precious few entertainment franchises of any sort that fall into that category but they do exist.
“I think GTA is one of them. I think Red Dead is one of them, and NBA is one of them. Borderlands, BioShock, Civilization and other titles have the ability to be titles like that but once the gating factor…it’s all about quality.
“It’s also about being willing to rest a title so you have a sense that ‘wow this is a rare event.’ I’ve always said that annualizing non-sports titles runs the risk of burning out the intellectual property even if it’s good.
“We take the time to make something we think is incredibly phenomenal and we also rest titles intentionally so there’s pent-up demand for that title so it’s a special event.
“I am going to see a Bond film because there isn’t another one in two months. I’m going to see every Bond film, and if it’s bad, I’m going to be really upset–it’ll be like a personal affront because I believe that IP is great. And that’s the compact that Rockstar has with its consumers.”
It’s safe to say while this doesn’t reference the release of GTA 6 directly, it certainly helps to explain why gamers are having to wait longer to play it; the guarantee of quality and the need to avoid product exhaustion.
