Guardiola extends his contract with Manchester City until 2025

London: Manchester City announced today (Wednesday) the extension of manager Pep Guardiola’s contract for two years, to stay with the English Premier League champion until 2025. The 51-year-old Spanish manager has led Manchester City to four league titles, the same number of League Cup and FA Cup title, since he took charge in 2016 and his contract was set to expire next summer. “I am delighted that Pep’s journey with Manchester City Football Club continues,” said the chairman of club Khaldoon Al Mubarak in a note. He added: “Guardiola has contributed a lot to the success of this system and still has a lot to offer, given his great passion, energy and ambition.” Guardiola’s current tenure with City is the longest as manager of any club since he began his coaching career in 2008. Guardiola said: “I am very happy to be staying at Manchester City for another two years…. I know the next chapter of the story of this club it will be great. It happened in the last 10 years and it will happen in the next 10 years because this club it is very stable. He added: “Since day one, I have felt something special here. I could not be in a better place.” The Spanish coach led Barcelona from 2008 to 2012, then spent three years with German giants Bayern Munich before joining City. City are second in the English Premier League, with 32 points in 14 games, five points behind leaders Arsenal, with the season temporarily suspended due to the World Cup in Qatar. (Reuters)
