Manchester City have lost their last three games to Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea, hence the manager Pep Guardiola said he hopes to learn from last season’s lessons and win the game at Stamford Bridge in Premier League Saturday.
Chelsea beat City in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League final last season, changing Tuchel’s fate for the club Londoner in mid season.
The game comes in the middle of a difficult week for City, who visit Paris Saint-Germain respectively in Champions League and to Liverpool in championship.
Guardiola told reporters on Friday: “We are preparing for the match, as was the case before the match against Southampton, in they drew 0-0, and in previous games, and we are trying to study the opponent and what we have done in the last games against Chelsea. “
He added: “Each game represents a new challenge to improve and grow.” The final is another story. In the FA Cup we played a final, in Premier League things were already decided and in Champions League was a great match. We are trying to learn and it is just another match in championship and we are preparing given our strengths and what needs to be improved and the mentality will be the same against PSG and Liverpool.
City are fifth, three points behind Chelsea, who share the lead with Liverpool and Manchester United by number of points, and Guardiola believes the league game will be one of the hottest in recent years.
He continued: “Every year I think the league is more difficult than the previous season. The competition is really strong and the challenge is huge for everyone and the league should be proud of the strength of the competition and the quality of the coaches. Each team has 15 o 16 great players and the fans are back too and it is an honor to be here.
Guardiola indicated that there were some injuries, without specifying the names. Defenders Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Oleksandr Zinchenko and midfielder Rodri missed last week’s draw with Southampton, and Ilkay Gandogan was also injured.
