He stole millions from bank accounts A Ukrainian hacker was arrested in Swiss

The specialized site “Krebs on Security” revealed today, Friday, that Ukrainian hacker Vyacheslav Igorevich Pinchukov, wanted by the US judiciary since 2012, was arrested last month in Swiss.

The 40-year-old was arrested in Geneva on October 23 while visiting his wife, who lives on the shores of Lake Geneva, according to the site web.

The Swiss Federal Office of Justice confirmed to the Swiss news website “Watson” the arrest of a Ukrainian citizen wanted by US authorities, explaining that the man refused to extradite him to the United States.

“On November 15, 2022, the Swiss Federal Office of Justice decided to authorize his extradition to the United States,” office spokesman Raphael Frey told MEE, adding that the suspect can still appeal the decision.

Americans accuse Penchukov of leading a group of hackers who carried out multimillion-dollar hacking operations, mainly by hacking into bank accounts online in the United States.

He was charged in this context of eight accomplices in the United States in 2012, but managed to escape justice.

According to the indictment at the time, the suspects used the Zeus virus to steal bank account numbers, passwords and other information needed to hack into bank accounts.

Therefore, the pirates were in capable of “stealing millions of dollars,” according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

The site web “Krebs on Security” said Pinchukov hails from Russian-speaking Donetsk, a region in eastern Ukraine that Russia recently annexed into its territory.
