Heather Knight made 89 when England scored a 30-run win over New Zealand in the first ODI of the five-match series at Bristol.
The England captain lay on 65 with Tammy Beaumont (44) saw the hosts slide from 109-1 to 140-5 before a mid-order collapse, but a score of 88 with Katherine Brunt (43) saved the innings and meant New Zealand were left hunting 242 for victory.
early wickets by Nat Sciver and Kate Cross reduced the White Ferns to 31-3 in reply and when the latter fired Sophie Devine (34) to end a 78-run partnership with Amy Satterthwaite (79no), the tourists faded quickly.
New Zealand got some hope when Lea Tahuhu came in at No. 10 and hit 25 of 14 balls and a last-wicket can stand between Satterthwaite and Leigh Kasperek (15) just I’ve had a little bit of England concerned before the No. 11 was run out with the visitors still 30 short of their target.
