Heavy fighting in Donetsk… and the head of the separatist region accuses Kyiv to recruit mercenaries

The Ukrainian military said a number of Russian missiles had landed on several regions of Ukraine, while fierce fighting continued in Donetsk in the east of the country.

The Ukrainian military added in a statement that the Russian army has made large and active movements in the last period in eastern Ukraine.

Leonid Pasechnik, the head of the separatist Luhansk, said the number of foreign mercenaries fighting alongside Ukrainian forces was increasing, helping the Ukrainian army replenish its reserves. Pasnik added that the confrontation with the Ukrainian army could have ended long ago if not for the presence of these precautions in the number of mercenaries.

Earlier, Andrei Marochko, an officer of the defense forces of the Luhansk breakaway republic, said that foreign mercenaries make up 100% of some Ukrainian units and that this number is in constant evolution. He stressed that the mercenaries fighting alongside Kiev are citizens of the former Soviet Union and NATO countries, and what he called “soldiers of fortune” who have been monitored in terrorist organizations such as “ISIS”.

About half of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure has become “out of order” following Russian attacks since early October, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal, in one moment in which Kiev on Friday asked for “additional support” from its European allies.

This comes as Russia accused Ukraine of “brutally” executing more than 10 of its servicemen after capturing them, condemning it as a “war crime”.

On Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ruled out approving a “brief truce” with Russia, saying it would only make matters worse.
