Hemedti: The West could face a wave of refugees if it doesn’t support Khartoum

The vice president of the Sovereign Council in Sudan, Lieutenant General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, nicknamed Hemedti, stressed that the world could face a new refugee crisis if his country opens its borders.

In a video interview with the Politico newspaper, he said today Wednesday: “Europe and the United States may face an increase in the number of refugees if they do not support authority and order in the country under the new government to be formed.”

He also believed that the West had no choice but to support the government to avoid the refugee crisis. He explained that Sudan’s borders are subject to monitoring by the army and security forces, which since last October 25 (2021) have been the subject of various criticisms for the imposition of exceptional measures.

Furthermore, he added: “Thanks to our commitment to the international community and the law, we are still monitoring these people . But if we open the borders, it will create a big problem. in Worldwide”.

He called on European countries and America to put aside their doubts and to consider him and the army chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, sources of stability, in light of the large number of refugees in the country. He believed he was being subjected to “news” campaigns false” on him.

In a previous interview with Al-Arabiya, Dagalo stressed that the military component is the subject of a campaign of “demonization”, denying that it has ambitions of political power. He said at the time: “We know there is a plan to demonize the military component in the country.”

It is reported that according to the United Nations, Sudan hosts more than one million refugees from multiple countries.

Nearly 7 million Sudanese and South Sudanese have been forcibly displaced, within their own country or in countries and regions outside of it.
