Henry Cejudo is no longer a two-time UFC champion. The bantamweight titleholder resigns from his flyweight belt.
Cejudo announced his decision on ESPN, Brett Okamoto and MMAJunkie.com late last Thursday. He disputed reports that the UFC had removed him from his flyweight to pave the way for a title bout between Joseph Benavidez and Deiveson Figueiredo on February 29.

“Triple C lends its title to these wannabe, so-called flyweight kingpins. That’s what happens. I get out of my belt,” Cejudo told MMAJunkie.com. “Stripping is not what I’m doing, I’m leaving and you can tell everyone to bend their knees.”

Cejudo (15-2, seven KOs) has not fought since winning the vacant bantamweight title last June over Marlon Moraes at UFC 238 and joining Conor McGregor, Daniel Cormier and Amanda Nunes as the only fighters to conduct two division championships simultaneously. Cejudo is recovering from shoulder surgery, but MMAJunkie.com has said he is very close to returning to the Octagon.
In fact, Cejudo called Jose Aldo this week in a promo, telling Aldo that he wanted to fight him in Rio de Janeiro.
“Dana White, let’s sign the contract,” Cejudo told the camera addressing the UFC president.
