2024 Upcoming Games in January

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (Jan. 18)

The last brand-new Prince of Persia game emerged over ten years ago. With Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Ubisoft finally brings the famous adventure series back to life.

The Lost Crown is coming out on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS5/PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. It combines the classic side-scrolling gameplay of the series with time-bending features found in more recent 3D games. But it also takes ideas from games like Metroid and Castlevania. It has a huge map and a lot of skills that you’ll unlock over time, making the story more interesting as you play.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered (Jan. 19)

It’s been less than four years since The Last of Us Part II was released at the tail end of the PS4 cycle, and it has already been given performance enhancements on PS5. But with the popularity of the HBO show and 2023’s remastered version of the original PS3 action game, Naughty Dog is launching a remastered and expanded version of the sequel on PS5.

Along with a visual upgrade, it includes some levels that were cut during the original development, additional character costumes, and a new roguelike survival mode called “No Return.” Luckily, it’s also selling for less than a typical new PS5 game at $50.

Tekken 8 (Jan. 26)

The iconic King of Iron Fist tournament makes a triumphant return in Tekken 8, extending Bandai Namco’s revered fighting franchise to the realms of PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. While the overall ambiance retains the familiar essence with the presence of many beloved characters, Tekken 8 introduces innovative combat elements designed to reward more aggressive gameplay, injecting a renewed cinematic flair into the heart of the action.

Revitalizing a 30-year-old franchise, especially one with an extensive repertoire of entries and spinoffs, is no small feat. However, Tekken 8 appears to embrace a rejuvenated spirit, promising to infuse new life into the series. As it stands on the cusp of release, the question lingers: Can Tekken 8 measure up to the heightened expectations set by its contemporaries, including the likes of Street Fighter 6?”
