Hogwarts Legacy Tops European Game Sales in First Half of 2023

Hogwarts Legacy dominated game sales in Europe during the first half of 2023, according to GSD data published on GamesIndustry.biz. Released in February, the fantasy title from Warner outperformed Elden Ring by 69% in sales during the same period in 2022, when Elden Ring was also a February release and the region’s top-selling game.

Diablo 4 Makes Impressive Impact Despite Late Release

Although it was only released in June, Diablo 4 secured the second spot on the sales chart. Activision Blizzard revealed that over 10 million players worldwide had already experienced the game during its launch month, making it the fastest-selling title from the renowned World of Warcraft studio.

FIFA 23 Claims Third Place with Strong Sales

FIFA 23 claimed the third spot on the European sales chart for the first six months of the year, with sales up by 24% compared to the previous year’s FIFA 22 during the same period.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Finds Success

Despite its May release and the exclusion of digital sales data for Nintendo games, the Switch exclusive The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom managed to secure the fourth spot on the chart. GSD reported it as the best-selling physical game during the first half of the year.

Grand Theft Auto 5 ranked fifth on the sales chart, followed by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, NBA 2K23, and Resident Evil 4.

European Game Sales Overview

During the six-month period, a total of 76.1 million console and PC games were sold in Europe, showing a slight increase compared to the previous year.

Physical game sales accounted for 38.2% of the overall sales (down 9% from the previous year), while digital sales made up 61.8% (up 7% from the previous year).
