SINGAPORE – Shares in Asia-Pacific were higher in Thursday morning trade, with markets in Japan closed for a holiday.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index was among the largest gains regionally, rising 1.19% in soon trade. The Taiex in Taiwan also gained 1.01%.
Mainland China stocks are in rise higher, with the Shanghai Composite was up about 0.1% while the Shenzhen component was up in fractional way.
South Korean Kospi gains 0.92% in morning trade.
Elsewhere, the S&P / ASX 200 in Australia gained 0.74%. Actions of the leading BHP miner rose nearly 3% after the company announced Thursday the signature of a nickel supply contract with Tesla.
The broader MSCI index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan traded 0.78% higher.
However, concerns over the situation of the coronavirus in Asia-Pacific could continue to weigh on regional sentiment on Thursday. The two largest states of Australia on Wednesday reported strong increases in new Covid infections, while Indonesia has seen record high deaths from the virus, according to Reuters.
