House Of The Dragon Season 2: Release Date, Cast, Trailer, Plot and Everything We Know So Far

Here’s what you need to know about the second season of House of the Dragon, such as what to expect from the story and when it might come out. House of the Dragon, which came out three years after the controversial end of Game of Thrones, was a return to form for stories set in Westeros. It has gotten mostly good reviews from critics and audiences alike and has been a huge ratings success for HBO. Season 1 may have answered any questions left, but we still need to figure out what will happen next.

House Of The Dragon Season 2

People will expect House of the Dragon season 2 to take things even further, especially after how dramatic the end of season 1 was. After Aegon and Rhaenyra were both crowned king and queen, and after Aemond killed Lucerys just outside of Storm’s End, civil war is coming, and things will only get bigger and bloodier from here on out. The Game of Thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon, is set up for the long haul and should run for a few years. Here’s what we know about season 2 of House of the Dragon.

House Of The Dragon Season 2 Cast

Most of the actors from the first season of House of the Dragon should be back for the second season. After a few jumps in time, House of the Dragon is set with its adult cast, so all the still-alive characters will likely come back. That means that Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) will be in charge of the show again, and their children will get more attention. Based on season 1, this is how season 2’s main cast will look:

  • Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen
  • Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen
  • Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower
  • Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower
  • Fabien Frankel as Criston Cole
  • Eve Best as Rhaenys Targaryen
  • Steve Toussain as Corlys Velaryon
  • Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria
  • Tom Glynn-Carney as Aegon II Targaryen
  • Ewan Mitchell as Aemond Targaryen
  • Phia Saban as Helaena Targaryen
  • Harry Collett as Jacaerys Velaryon
  • Bethany Antonia as Baela Targaryen
  • Phoebe Campbell as Rhaena Targaryen
  • Graham McTavish as Harrold Westerling
  • Matthew Needham as Larys Strong

House Of The Dragon Season 2 Trailer

Since filming for season 2 of House of the Dragon will start in the spring of 2023, there are no teasers, trailers, behind-the-scenes photos, or other promotional materials out yet. The first season of House of the Dragon came out in August 2022, and the first sneak peek came out in October 2021. If the show comes out in the summer of 2024, Season 2 could come out on the same schedule as the trailers. Digital Spy says that filming started in March 2023, which should be enough time for a Fall trailer release, even if it’s just a teaser for House of the Dragon season 2.

House Of The Dragon Season 2 Release Date

House of the Dragon season 2 won’t start filming until at least Spring 2023. The Spanish newspaper Hoy (via Watchers on the Wall) says that production will return to Cáceres, used as King’s Landing in season 1, between April and May. The UK’s Leavesden Studios were used for many of Season 1’s filming. Filming could start before then, though. The actor who plays Corlys Velaryon, Steve Touissant, said on Twitter that filming would start very soon.

Post-production will take a long time, especially since season 2 should have bigger fights and more dragons. The first season of House of the Dragon was finished filming in February 2022, six months before it came out. However, the schedule had to work around Covid shutdowns. With that information, it seems likely that House of the Dragon season 2 will come out around April 2024, which is when Game of Thrones has been coming out for a long time. However, HBO says that House of the Dragon season 2 will come out in the summer of 2024.

House Of The Dragon Season 2 Is Confirmed

HBO renewed House of the Dragon for a second season right after the first season premiere, which broke the network’s records regarding how many people watched. Even though Season 8 of Game of Thrones got bad reviews, House of the Dragon was a big hit. Author George R.R. Martin says that House of the Dragon needs four seasons to tell this story, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he got his wish.

House of the Dragon’s second season will have eight episodes instead of the first season’s ten (via TV Line). This decision was made for creative rather than financial reasons, which is good news for fans even though it means they will get fewer episodes. But along with this update comes a report that the decision is also related to early talks about House of the Dragon season 3 and possibly ending the series after that or season 4.

House Of The Dragon Season 2 Plot?

The second season of House of the Dragon should pick up right where the first ended, with the Dance of the Dragons. The battle for the Iron Throne is on now that Aegon and Rhaenyra have declared themselves King and Queen, respectively. This is especially true after what Aemond did at Storm’s End. How much Fire & Blood will be used in season 2 must be clarified, but the book hints about big things that could happen in the next set of episodes.

In the story, there will be a fight between twins and the “Blood and Cheese” event, which could be why Rhaenyra Targaryen got the nickname “Rhaenyra the Cruel.” There will also be a lot of sad deaths and injuries. Also, season 2 could use the story of Dragonseeds, where people who aren’t Targaryens become dragon riders. Rhaenyra, in particular, changes in many important ways after her heart is broken. Season 2 of House of the Dragon will be very different because it will go beyond King’s Landing and Dragonstone, with Jacaerys going to the Vale of Arryn and Winterfell. House of the Dragon fans can also look forward to a bigger season, as five new dragons have been promised for season 2.

When he said he had been researching old rat traps, showrunner Ryan Condal hinted that the Blood and Cheese storyline could be happening. Even though the two killers haven’t been cast yet, Condal’s words are too powerful to ignore. Also, House of the Dragon season 2’s storyline will be much more like Game of Thrones, which came before it. Season 1 was mostly about setting up the story and explaining what happened to start the Targaryen Civil War and who was in it. Now that that’s over, there shouldn’t be any more big jumps in time or new actors.
