How Water Can Support Weight Loss
When trying to lose weight, many people first consider making changes to their diet. However, something as simple as drinking water can have a significant impact on weight loss efforts.
Benefits of Drinking Water for Weight Loss
According to nutritionist Amy Goodson, staying hydrated with water can help with feelings of satiety, which may lead to smaller meal portions. In addition, drinking water can serve as a substitute for less healthy beverage choices like soft drinks and energy drinks. Goodson also emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated during exercise, as it can contribute to burning calories and preventing fatigue.
Daily Water Intake Recommendations
Goodson explains that the recommended daily intake of water varies depending on factors such as age, gender, activity level, and overall health. However, a general guideline for women is about 11.5 cups per day, and for men, it is about 15.5 cups, including fluids consumed from food. To help meet these targets, Goodson suggests drinking water with meals, before meals to control portion sizes, and throughout the day to maintain hydration levels. She also recommends drinking water before, during, and after exercise to enhance performance and prevent dehydration.
