With the latest versions of iOS and iPadOS, there are various ways to manage the apps and icons on your device. If you want to move or remove an icon on the home screen or the Dock, you now have access to a menu with different options. Updating your apps is also another process, since you now go through your account screen in the App Store app. You can view and manage your app purchases and subscriptions via the same screen.

First, Apple has made a small change to the way you manage your home screen apps between iOS / iPadOS 13.1.3 and iOS / iPadOS 13.2. These steps apply if you use iOS 13.2 or higher on your iPhone and iPadOS 13.2 or higher on your iPad. If you have not yet been updated to the latest version, navigate to Settings on your device and click Software Update. You will be notified that your software is up-to-date or that the latest update is available for download and installation (Figure A).

Suppose there is an app that you want to delete. Press the app until you see the pop-up menu. Along with all commands that are specific to that app, the menu presents a command to remove the app. Tap that option and then tap Delete to confirm. To bypass the menu, press the app until all icons begin to shake. Tap the X in the upper-left corner of the icon and then tap Delete to confirm (Figure B).

To move an icon or rearrange the icons on your home screens, press an icon until the menu appears, and then tap the Edit Home Screen option. The icons start shaking, so you can move them across the screen or from one screen to another. You can place one icon on the other to create a folder or move an icon to an existing folder. Tap Done in the upper right corner (Figure C).

Open the App Store app to check for updates for your apps. Tap your profile image in the upper right corner – your image may already show the number of available updates. Swipe down on your account screen to stand in line for the latest updates and then swipe up. The Update All option shows the last number of available updates. Tap the Update All link to download all updates or tap the Update button for a specific app to limit it to only those (Figure D).

Tap the Purchased item at the top of your account screen to see all your purchased apps. On the next screen, tap the My Purchases option. The All screen displays the apps that you have purchased for all of your Apple devices. Tap the Not on this iPhone (or iPad) heading to see the apps that are installed on other devices, but not on your current device. When you are finished, you will return to your account screen (Figure E).

From your account screen you can view and manage your app subscriptions. Tap the Subscription item and swipe down the screen. The active section shows your current subscriptions; the Expired section shows subscriptions that are no longer active. Tap a specific plan that you want to manage. Canceling a subscription will stop that subscription, and assuming it is not a trial subscription, your access to that app will end at the next billing cycle. If you want to re-subscribe to an expired subscription or change the subscription level for an active subscription, tap one of the options in the Options section; that option becomes effective. When you are finished, tap Done (Figure F).
