Fans of the iconic show I Love Lucy are for special treatment. With Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, Jr., the holiday special will be broadcast on CBS on Friday, December 20, 2019, with two consecutive colorized episodes. Fans are so thrilled about the Christmas special that they talked about it on social media. The event will start at 8 p.m. ET and CBS will broadcast “The Christmas Episode” and “Paris At Last”. Both will be in color. CBS has been playing “The Christmas Episode” for six years and for some households, it has become a holiday tradition.
CBS described the two episodes as follows.
“The Christmas Episode” finds the Ricardos and Mertzes decorating Lucy and Ricky’s Christmas tree and recalling how their lives have changed since the arrival of Ricardos’ son, Little Ricky (Keith Thibodeaux). Flashbacks recall the night Lucy told Ricky she was pregnant, the time Lucy unexpectedly introduced herself as part of a barber quartet, and the day Ricky and the Mertz rehearsed while taking Lucy at maternity.
“The Christmas Episode” first aired on CBS on Christmas Eve 1956. The episode was not included in the series’ long repeat rerun, first on CBS Daytime and later in syndication. Long thought to be lost, the program was rediscovered by CBS in 1989.
In “Paris finally”, the Ricardos and Mertzes arrive in the French capital, where Lucy meets a sidewalk artist who sells several copies of the same “original” oil painting and a con artist who offers a better exchange rate for his American dollars than that offered in banks. Later, her attempt to have a leisurely lunch in an outdoor cafe led her not only to involuntarily order a plate of snails, but also to pay the check with counterfeit French francs. Next stop: the Bastille?
“Paris finally” was originally broadcast on February 27, 1956 and became an immediate favorite with viewers. “
I Love Lucy has been a favorite show for over 50 years and continues to be one of the most popular comedy series of all time.
